Types of Treatment Programs Near Norristown
While support groups can be an effective treatment, some people require a more intensive program. There are several types of treatment programs located near Norristown, PA but they can be grouped into two major categories.
- Outpatient treatment programs can be multiple hours per day, several days per week. The patient travels to the facility each day to participate in therapy. The patient is able to continue much of their daily responsibilities while still receiving care.
- Inpatient programs are also known as residential facilities that may or may not be associated with a hospital. During inpatient programs, the patient stays at the facility for days, weeks, or months at a time. These programs typically offer therapy 5 or more days per week and round-the-clock care.

Our trained admissions specialists can discuss treatment options with you.
What Types of Therapies are Available near Norristown?
Peace Valley Recovery is proud to offer some of the most effective and well-researched types of therapies for our patients. We offer traditional types of therapy as well as experiential therapies.
Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-based therapy is a type of therapy that seeks to change negative patterns of thinking. This type of therapy is very effective at treating a wide range of mental health and substance abuse issues.
CBT can occur in an individual and group setting. In individual therapy, a trained therapist helps the patient to identify unhelpful thoughts that may be leading to unwanted behaviors.
CBT teaches patients methods and strategies to use to change their patterns of thinking and learn to calm their minds.
Group therapy is also an effective method of therapy. In a group setting, patients are able to connect with others who may be facing the same challenges as them. Therapists work hard to ensure that there is a safe, welcoming environment to share personal thoughts and feelings.
The CBT approach can also be applied to family therapy. When there is drug or alcohol abuse, family relationships can be stressed or damaged.
At Peace Valley Recovery, family members who live in the Norristown area are encouraged to participate in therapy. Family members are able to help the individual in treatment work through issues and rebuild connections.
Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment involves using medications to help a patient during the initial detox phase of treatment. Detoxification is a process that should be completed under the supervision of a medical professional.
Detox can last for several days or weeks. During this stage, the patient can experience a wide variety of symptoms including:
- Fever
- Chills
- Nausea
- Widespread pain
- Seizures
If appropriate, medication can be prescribed to lessen the symptoms of detoxification.
If other mental health issues are contributing to substance abuse, medication can also be used to treat those conditions.
Nontraditional Therapies
Beyond psychotherapy and medication, experiential therapies are available to complement more traditional methods.
At Peace Valley Recovery, we offer yoga therapy to support the physical and mental wellness of our patients. Yoga therapy has been shown to increase overall mood, decrease pain, and improve self-awareness.
Music therapy is another experiential therapy that benefits our patients. During music therapy, patients sing, make music, or listen to music. This type of therapy is effective at improving mental health and helping people process emotions.
What To Look for in a Treatment Program
With many options for substance abuse treatment in the Norristown, PA area, it can feel overwhelming to choose a program. There are several key factors to consider when you are starting your search for treatment.
Facility
If you are receiving on an inpatient or outpatient basis, you will still be spending a good portion of time at the facility. The facility of choice should be kept in clean condition and well-maintained.
The aesthetic and setting of the facility should contribute to a sense of calm and serenity. It should be a welcoming space.
Consider the amenities available during recreational time. Each facility will have different features that may or may not be appealing.
Also, consider the actual location itself. Peace Valley Recovery is located very close to Norristown in Doylestown. Receiving outpatient treatment in a facility that is close to home may help a patient continue their everyday responsibilities.
It is recommended to visit a facility in person instead of relying on pictures. Mostly all will offer a tour of the facility. During your tour, you can also meet key staff members.
Staff
Qualified, experienced staff are at the center of any effective treatment program. Being able to trust that the staff is providing the best possible care is paramount during the recovery process.
Ask your facility what certifications or licenses the staff hold. The facility itself may hold certifications as well.
Peace Valley Recovery employs staff members who have faced addiction themselves and are committed to helping others. We are proud that our facility is accredited by the following organizations:
- The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
- The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP)
- The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP)
Programs
Treatment programs can vary widely both in length and types of therapies offered. A certain program may or may not be a good fit for a patient based on their unique needs.
Some factors like whether or not the patient has been in treatment before, the severity of the addiction, and co-occurring mental illness will influence whether an inpatient or outpatient setting is most appropriate.
It is important to note that outpatient facilities can still have very intensive programs. Peace Valley Recovery offers a Partial Hospitalization Program that meets 5 days per week for 6 hours per day. Intensive Outpatient Programs meet either 3 or 5 days per week for 3 hours per day, depending on the needs of the patient.
Our program offers individual, group, and family therapy, primarily using CBT. We also offer experiential therapies to support a whole-body approach to wellness.
Each treatment program should be customized to fit the individual. Progress should also be monitored and treatment should be modified as needed.
Peace Valley Recovery offers EMDR. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy is an effective method used with patients who have experienced trauma that may be contributing to their substance abuse. This type of therapy is only available in select rehab facilities near Norristown.
Not all programs offer access to medication but it can be an important component of a treatment program if appropriate. Peace Valley Recovery is LegitScript certified which means we adhere to the highest levels of safety and transparency when it comes to dispensing and managing medications.
Affordability
Cost is usually the first factor considered when comparing drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs.
In general, outpatient programs are less expensive compared to inpatient programs. The cost of living at the facility full-time versus at home increases the cost of treatment significantly.
It is important to choose a facility and program that fits both your needs and budget.
How Much Does Treatment Cost?
The cost of treatment depends heavily on a patient’s insurance coverage. Peace Valley Recovery helps to verify insurance coverage early in the process.
Insurance carriers may have a preferred list of in-network providers that they cover at a higher rate. Insurance greatly reduces out-of-pocket costs for patients and sometimes even pays for 100% of treatment.
If you do not have insurance, there are many state and federal sources of financial assistance available. There are also scholarships available.
Cost should not be a barrier to accessing treatment. We will work to help you understand your options for paying for treatment.
